Free version and Pro

On this page

The free version of ReqRes has every feature. Pro lifts 3 limits: on host filters, on rules, and on HTTPS inspections. A Pro license is bought once and covers 1 person on up to 2 Macs.

What the free version includes

The ReqRes Pro window lists the limits under "Lifts the 3 limits of the free version" and adds "Everything else is already free."

With no license, you can use:

Each time ReqRes opens without a license, it shows the ReqRes Pro window. Click Continue with Free Version to use the free version.

Free version limits

LimitFree versionAt the limit
Host filters2The New Host Filter sheet says "The free version includes two host filters. Upgrade for unlimited filters."
Rules1 in total, across all host filtersThe New Override sheet says "The free version includes one override. Upgrade for unlimited overrides."
HTTPS inspections10 per launchThe inspector shows "No Free HTTPS Inspections Left" and "The free version includes 10 HTTPS inspections per launch. Upgrade for unlimited HTTPS inspections." with an Upgrade… button.
  • An HTTPS inspection counts when you open an HTTPS request in the inspector. Opening the same request again does not count again.
  • The count of HTTPS inspections resets when you restart ReqRes.
  • Plain HTTP requests never count.
  • A relayed row never counts: a connection opened before the certificate was trusted, or one marked "SSL pinned". It holds nothing to inspect.
  • The app says: "Opening a Failed row never uses a free HTTPS inspection; an Aborted or Timed out one that kept a body counts like any other request."
  • A row that is still streaming counts once, however long it runs, and the finished row that replaces it does not count again. Reading a WebSocket's Messages tab costs nothing more after you open its row.
  • Capture, the traffic list and search have no limit. New requests keep arriving in the list after you reach 10.
  • Editing the rule you have is never limited. A rule that is switched off still counts.

The limits apply to your agent

An agent connected over MCP has the same 2 host filters and 1 rule. In the ReqRes Pro window, the rules row says "Extend, Override and Map Local, made by you or your AI agent". When an agent reaches a limit, its tool call fails with limit_reached.

An agent's reads do not count toward the 10 HTTPS inspections. That limit applies only to the inspector in the app. MCP tools lists which tools add host filters and rules.

The free inspections gauge

In the free version, the toolbar shows how many HTTPS inspections are left. At launch it reads "10/10 free HTTPS inspections", and the count goes down as you open HTTPS requests.

Hover the gauge to see how many are left this session. Click it to open the ReqRes Pro window.

The sidebar footer shows Free Version. Click it to open the ReqRes Pro window as well.

What Pro changes

The ReqRes Pro window lists the 3 limits Pro lifts as:

  • Unlimited host filters
  • Unlimited rules
  • Unlimited HTTPS inspections

The 3 limits are lifted for your agent too. With Pro, the gauge leaves the toolbar and the sidebar footer shows PRO. ReqRes also stops showing the ReqRes Pro window at launch.

When a limit's Upgrade… button opens the window, that limit's row is marked Reached. So is the HTTPS inspections row when you click the gauge with no inspections left.

What a license covers

A license is for 1 person, on up to 2 Macs activated at once. Pay once, use forever on every 1.x version: every 1.x update is included, with no subscription. Each person who uses ReqRes needs a license, so a team buys 1 license per person, and 5 licenses or more get a volume discount.

ReqRes Pro is $60 USD per person, excluding VAT and sales tax. The price and the volume discounts are on the pricing page, and the terms are in the license agreement.

Buy or activate a license

To buy a license:

  1. Open Settings ▸ License, or click the gauge or Free Version.
  2. Click Buy a License. ReqRes opens the pricing page at reqresapp.com in your browser.
  3. Choose how many licenses you need, 1 per person, and complete checkout.
  4. Copy the license key from the page that opens after checkout. The key is also emailed to the address you gave at checkout.

To activate a license:

  1. In the ReqRes Pro window, click Activate License…. It opens the Activate License sheet, which says "Enter the key from your email. Each license covers 2 Macs at once." In Settings ▸ License, use the License key field instead.
  2. Paste the key into the field that shows XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.
  3. Click Activate.

After an activation in the ReqRes Pro window, the window says "Pro is active on this Mac." Click Done to close it.

Activation needs an internet connection. ReqRes ties the license to your Mac's serial number, and a Mac keeps its place on the license until it is removed. A virtual machine has its own serial number and counts as a Mac. With a license, Settings ▸ License shows how many Macs use it next to Macs in use, for example "1 of 2".

Move the license to another Mac

With 2 Macs activated, a third gets "Device limit reached (2/2)". To move the license, remove a Mac on the license page at reqresapp.com/license/, then activate on the new Mac. Move your license to another Mac has the steps, the automatic release of a Mac idle for more than 30 days, and how to get your key again.

The online check

ReqRes checks the license online about once a day while it runs. The check sends your license key and your Mac's serial number to reqresapp.com; see Data and privacy.
